Helping You Be Prepared For Orthodontic Emergencies

True emergencies involve:

  • Profuse bleeding

  • Severe swelling

  • Parts of braces or appliances that have become embedded in gums/cheeks/tongue or other oral soft tissue

  • Severe trauma to the teeth or jaws

  • Inability to open or close the mouth (lock jaw)

  • Signs of an allergic reaction

  • Aspiration of an orthodontic appliance

  • Severe pain that does not allow a person to function

If any of these things happen, please call the office right away to let us know. The emergency may require you to seek care at an urgent care clinic or an emergency room as soon as possible. If it is a less severe issue, we may be able to schedule a time to meet you in our office to adjust your appliances to relieve pain.
